Adventure, Camaraderie, and Healing for Veterans

We are a group of combat veterans that strive to help other veterans succeed through extreme sports.

Xsports4vets is a 501(c3) non-profit who is helping post 9/11 veterans reintegrate and provide a space for growth and community throughout Western Montana.

We utilize extreme sports to take the edge out of civilian life. Some of us have wounds left over from combat, others can't be seen - but we all benefit from getting out and meeting people that have been in our shoes.

Psychology of why it helps

Engaging in extreme sports can offer significant psychological benefits for veterans, particularly those dealing with PTSD and the challenges of reintegration into civilian life.

The intense focus required for these activities can provide a sense of presence and mindfulness, which is therapeutic for individuals who have experienced trauma. Moreover, the camaraderie and shared experiences in extreme sports mimic aspects of military cohesion, offering a familiar social structure that can ease the transition.

Studies suggest that the adrenaline and physical exertion involved in these sports can also contribute to improved mental health outcomes, fostering a sense of control, achievement, and confidence.
